STOP Bias is an educational campaign dedicated to preventing acts of bias on the SU campus.
Rhythm and Roots is a new program being offered in partnership with Syracuse University that will be taught by renowned music educator Nisha Purushotham. The group has met this semester every Tuesday at Blodgett School and brings together SU students, community members, and local youth to participate in peaceful drumming and discussion. Rhythm and Roots will culminate this spring with a reception and two final performances. Check back for more information! On Monday, February 13 SU students came together in the Goldstein Auditorium to save lives. SU held their annual blood drive, in partnership with the Red Cross, where students were able to donate and watch the SU v. Louisville game in the auditorium. This year we exceeded our goal by collecting 128 units of blood. For those unable to give blood, the Better Together Syracuse campaign hosted a food packaging event where students gathered around tables to combine raw ingredients into bags and then seal and package the bags into large boxes to be shipped around the world. With the help of over 20 volunteers, SU was able to package over 12,000 meals for those in need. Spirits were high as fans crowded into the Carrier Dome on Wednesday, February 8 for the SU v. Georgetown game. A mixture of excitement and nerves filled the air but amidst basketball fever over thirty SU students and staff stood at the doors waving signs for a different reason. The Better Together Syracuse campaign partnered with Georgetown to show solidarity in the fight against hunger. In the weeks leading up to the game, both campuses held canned food drives which culminated in the collection at the Dome on game-day. Overall, SU collected 1370 pounds of canned items, $1560.13 in monetary donations, and received a $1000 donation from Pricewaterhouse Coopers for the Food Bank of CNY.
